SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE | ECO FRIENDLY ARCHITECTURE
How to become more eco-friendly through architecture
Living in a world which is constantly steering to be eco-friendlier and more sustainable, as Architects, we feel we are in an influential position to contribute and inform our designs with this growing, environmental movement.
What materials should we use if we are trying to be eco-friendly?
A few sustainable choices we consider when designing are, the materials we choose. Sourcing materials that are sustainable or recycling existing materials from site and giving them a new purpose require minimal effort but contributes to the world becoming more sustainable. We will often recycle materials (where possible) like; rooftiles, bricks and timber. However, this isn’t always a clients first preference as they want to step away from what’s existing. Creating a design that includes recycling can be an innovative way to bring new life to materials, giving them a different purpose and ‘lease of life’.
How can I make my new build eco-friendly?
When it comes to new builds, we want to design buildings that are impactful but are still going to positively influence the world of sustainability for both now, and the future. It’s important for us to design properties considering materials that we know will last, so there’s less waste and cost of replacing it every few years. Consider roofing materials, popular sustainable options are sedum roofs.
How do Architects apply eco-friendly living to their designs?
To live a sustainable life as an Architect means we are constantly thinking about the future of design and how every project we do is contributing to what that looks like. It’s exciting and teaches us how to be more resourceful when designing.
